But only in an opening montage, in which life changes are laid out and books are held up to the camera to remind us why the movie is called what it is. Yes, I’m sorry to report that the new Book Club movie drags us back into the socially distanced, Zoom-box hell of yesteryear. She reveals her happy news to her best pals-retired judge Sharon ( Candice Bergen), recently out of work chef Carol ( Mary Steenburgen), and merry-ish widow Diane ( Diane Keaton)-after months, if not over a year, of quarantine separation. Never-married bon vivant Vivian ( Jane Fonda) is set to get hitched to the beau she fell for in the first film, Arthur ( Don Johnson). Instead, they just decide to go to Italy, mostly as a bachelorette party. Quite unlike the first film-which was centered on later-in-life sexual (and sorta social) awakenings stirred by a specific tome, 50 Shades of Grey-this sequel doesn’t bother with finding another titillating novel to set its heroes on a new course. But that’s really the only nod to format. The ladies of Book Club: The Next Chapter do, at least, hold a few books at the start of their film.

Using text features, like italics, bold face, underlining, bigger font size, and quotation marks makes something stand out to a reader… it lets the reader know, “Hey, this is important!” On pages 23 and 24, you’ll see that Boelts uses italics, bold face and quotation marks to bring greater attention to a phrase that represents what the character is thinking. For instance, on page 4 of Those Shoes, Boelts emphasizes words by putting them in single quotes or italics. When an author wants to call attention to a particular word or phrase in a text, they do things to that word or to a phrase to make it stand out. Writing short sentences, like Boelts did, will get your reader to focus more on the words contained in the short sentences, which can provide description or give more information to the reader in short, quick bursts. Therefore, you can vary the length of your sentences, when you write, so that you can get your reader to slow down just like Boelts did on pages 2, 15, and 30 of her book Those Shoes. However, when an author wants his/her reader to quicken their pace while they’re reading, they’ll use longer sentences. The punctuation at the end of each short sentence forces you to pause, stop, and think. If an author wants you to slow down, s/he uses lots of short sentences. One thing writers do is vary the lengths of their sentences when they write. For a first effort, the workmanlike quality shows skill, but there is little to differentiate it from other novels in the genre. The lack of definition and narrow imagination leave the writing flat and unremarkable. The action proceeds at a fair pace and is easy to follow, but there are too many clichés and conveniences to create a solid arc. The antagonists are intended to be terrifying, but are as undeveloped as the rest of the characters. The nameless protagonist is saddled with a mysterious past, a drug addiction that barely affects the story, and a series of crises that never reach a critical stage. The only trilogy in Greek drama that survives from antiquity, Aeschylus' The Oresteia is translated by Robert Fagles with an introduction, notes and glossary written in collaboration with W.B. Forming an elegant and subtle discourse on the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, The Oresteia is a compelling tragedy of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In Agamemnon, a king's decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution The Libation Bearers deals with the aftermath of Clytemnestra's regicide, as her son Orestes sets out to avenge his father's death and in The Eumenides, Orestes is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration. In the Oresteia Aeschylus addressed the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Focusing on eleven prominent bands who made the jump from indie to major, Sellout charts the twists and turns of the last "gold rush" of the music industry, where some groups "sold out" and rose to surprise super stardom, while others buckled under mounting pressures. In Sellout, seasoned music writer Dan Ozzi chronicles this embattled era in punk. The result was a schism: those who accepted the cash flow of the majors, and those who defiantly clung to their indie cred. But the DIY punk scene, which had long prided itself on its trademark authenticity and anti-establishment ethos, wasn't quite ready to let their homegrown acts go without a fight. Looking to replicate the band's success, major record labels set their sights on the underground, and began courting punk's rising stars. After indie favorite Nirvana catapulted into the mainstream with its unexpected phenomenon, Nevermind, rebellion was suddenly en vogue. Punk rock found itself at a crossroads in the mid-90's.
